Jolly Jewel Lilac delivers dazzling blooms all the way from late spring to late summer. A long, steady bloom time is ideal for container gardening because a container’s an easy focal point, and you’ll want that focus to be consistent and enduring. This geranium will fill that role, no problem. It’s low growing at about 6-10″ tall. If you’ve heard of the thriller-filler-spiller ratio of container planting, Jolly Jewel Lilac Geranium is the perfect filler. Add something cascading down the side of the pot (spiller), and something tall behind it (thriller), and you’ve got a pro-level display. You could also plant Jolly Jewel in a large group. Brilliant color, a spicy fragrance and a nice habit for background planting in a perennial bed, Jeana is a fabulous tall phlox. What we love best, however, is the disease resistance. The big headache with average Tall Phlox is powdery mildew. But give Jeana well-drained soil and good air circulation, and its exceptional resistance will keep this variety mildew-free through the season. Butterflies adore the blooms, but deer generally stay away from the fragrant flowers. Be sure to snip a few blooms for a color pop in your fresh bouquets. This is a herbaceous perennial. It’ll grow 24-48″, then die back to the ground in winter. You can prune it in early winter or early spring, and it’ll grow again from the base. Bring a warm flare of color to the sunniest spot in your garden with Fiery Meadow Mama Coneflower. Its prominent cones are surrounded by a skirt of reflexed petals that get lighter and brighter at the tips. This coneflower needs full sun to thrive, so plant it in sun-drenched borders and walkways or in patio containers, then cut a few and bring inside for a burst of sunshine indoors. It looks stunning when planted en masse by itself, or when paired with coral bells and flowing grasses. Pollinators will flock to it all summer long, but deer will likely leave it alone.
