These exquisite double flower heads burst into prolific bloom with soft, pale petals, each one lined with a thin edge of maroon blush. This Lenten Rose unfurls those petals at the very start of spring, rising up to 2′ tall on sturdy stems that grow from deeply colored, palm-like evergreen foliage. It grows best in shady areas, so chose borders, containers and woodland spaces with plenty of cover—and don’t forget to trim a few to bring inside. The 2.5″ flowers look charming in vases and bouquets. First Dance is easy to grow, drought tolerant and won’t interest any deer. It’s also a member of the Wedding Party® Series. Pink Frost Double Hellebore is a king sized hellebore in maroon-speckled pink, with mesmerizing striping and spattering along each petal. Glossy, semi-evergreen foliage mounds beautifully from late winter to early spring, opening the shade garden’s season with delicate style.

Dutch-bred King Size Hellebore (Helleborus orientalis) reinvent the world of Lenten roses. Each plant grows taller than a traditional Hellebore, reaching 24 to 28 inches, with large, four-inch blooms. Because the stems of these King Size Hellebores are much taller and thicker than those of standard Hellebore species, these flowers perform exceptionally well in cut arrangements. Ideal for patio containers or woodland-style gardens.

Lenten Rose, or Hellebores, pop up through the snow to remind us that winter won’t last forever. This variety is a lovely, relatively large-blooming entrant to the group, with soft centers and a pure white, semi-double bloom. Snowbells’ blooms open to nearly three inches across, an absolute delight to see in the still-cold months. Most hellebores bloom facing downward, but these are naturally side-facing, lending a fuller look. Bright white blooms with a yellow center are reminiscent of daffodils and other spring-flowering bulbs, but this is an incredibly hardy perennial that won’t be burnt out by the cold. This Lenten Rose blooms in a fresh color combination to rejuvenate your landscape in late winter to early spring. The dark and light contrast makes these flowers easy to spot, even in a forgotten shade garden, dressing up the scene nicely. Lenten Rose is an easy, low maintenance flowering plant, so if you’ve had trouble growing good things in the shade, this is a welcome relief. We just suggest dappled or part shade, as it doesn’t bloom quite as easily in full shade, and you’re going to want those flowers. Not only are they lovely in the garden, they’re great in bouquets, arrangements, or stemless and floating in a bowl of water as a table centerpiece. Helleborus orientalis ‘Irish Luck’
